Frequently asked questions

Assembla is a cloud-based platform with two products: Repos and Spaces.

Repos handles hosting source code and performing source code management operations like commits, merge requests, code comparisons, and backups.

Spaces is our all-in-one project management and ticketing solution, helping you streamline collaboration, communication, tracking, and reporting. You can use Repos or Spaces individually, utilize them together, and add Helix Core licenses as needed.

Assembla supports Perforce, Git, and Subversion repositories, and we have integrations with industry-leading tools such as Slack, Jira, Unreal Engine, Unity, and more.
By default, Assembla runs on our AWS-based cloud infrastructure, but you can also opt for managed hosting.

We migrate source code only with the managed hosting option. When you select managed hosting, our DevOps team assists with your migration from another cloud-based or on-premises source code management platform. Read this article for details about our process.

Individual Repos and Spaces instances include 50 GB of storage space. Repos+Spaces instances include 250 GB. Beyond that, excess storage is billed at $0.2/1GB, up to 1TB.

Assembla is SOC 2 Type II compliant for the most rigorous security and data protection standards. All data is stored within AWS data centers, encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption, and transferred over SSL.

Our data security strategy includes hourly backups plus continuous real-time replication, instantly mirroring any changes to a replica system for added security. Repository changes are promptly backed up within 30 minutes to a failover server, ensuring minimal downtime or data loss. In addition, we’ve located our disaster recovery cluster in a separate data center for additional protection.
